30th Vis Moot
Success for Team Erlangen at the 30th Vis Moot 2022/23
The team from Erlangen was able to convince at the finals of this year’s Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (Vis Moot) and advanced to the round of the best 64 teams in Vienna – as it did last time in 2009(!). There it was eliminated against the later finalist. Overall, the team was able to hold its own in the competition with over 378 universities from 89 countries and achieved a pleasing 54th place.
Since the facts of the case were issued in early October 2022, the team has been working intensively on this year’s case, preparing a plaintiff’s brief and a defendant’s brief in English, one after the other, until January 2023. In preparation for the oral pleadings, the team visited various major law firms in Munich, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. In addition, in preparation for the final in Vienna, the team attended pre-moots in Düsseldorf, Tbilisi (Georgia), Alexandria (Egypt), Erlangen and Belgrade (Serbia). Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors and our faculty, it was possible to waive a financial contribution from the participants.
This year’s team consisted of Benedikt Behrendt, Sarah Emmert, Maximilian Hübner, Nicolas Kiefer, Johannes Ohm and Karim Radoin. Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Robert Freitag, the team was coached by Martin Gronemann (former Chair Krajewski), Stefan Homm (Chair Freitag), Nick Jung (Chair Stamm), Jannick Preiwisch (Chair Kudlich) and Markus Weißenberger (Chair Schmolke).

After several online semesters, she is even more excited about working with other students. That is the reason why she decided to take part in the Soldan Moot in her fourth semester. As she is convinced that Moot Courts are a great chance to acquire practical experiences that are not taught at university and to improve rhetorical skills. Therefore, she subsequently decided to participate at the Vis Moot as well. Sarah is curious to gain knowledge in international law and meeting students from around the world. |
